Day 41 to 42 (Running with a purose)

What I have Learned
- It is good to know if you should or should not be listening to the radio when you are running low on "gas" in your running tank. Running without the radio is probably a better idea to concentrate on my form and to keep focused not to over do it. It is a good way to listen to my legs and breathing instead of the radio.

Recent Runs
- 6.0 Miles on Monday in 63 minutes 10.5 minute miles pace
- 5.0 Miles on Tuesday in 64 minutes ~13 minute mile pace with a lot of walking.

Off Road thoughts
- feet need attention as my athletes feet to to dry scalp like feet which hurt and itch (hurt from over scratching, but still itch).
- need additional sleep lately. That would probably help running performance. I think I am going to get some sleep now.

Bye Bye for Now,
Steven

Day 38-40 (Thinking about Running but busy with other stuff)

What I have learned
- The route that I thougth was ~5 miles is really 6.

Recent Runs
Wedensday ran 6.0 Miles (good time ~1:05)
Thursday ran 6.0 Miles (marginal time feelt tired ~1:15)
Friday (day of rest)
Saturday (ran out of time to go running, spent time cleaning and doing yardwork just in case a cousin drops in on Sunday.

Off Road thoughts
- Wonderful Friday evening playing cards with friends until late.
- Forgot about work during the whole weekend (well until now but it still is far out of my mind).
- Tired, and may still run yet this afternoon or evening, but felt the need to make a post now.
- Bought a watch to keep accurate time instead of just guessing.
- A friend told me about an aquintenance of her's that has become well she did not say this (obessed) with running and I realized maybe running a couple of times this past week while not feeling physically all that great (nose has been running like water and feeling drained) might not be a good idea. Although normally when I get going and running it has positive results.

Day 37 (Adding the Extra Mile...)

What I Learned Today
- Running today after work refershed me. I was feeling a little drained, but the run got me going.
- I did not learn anything profound today.
- I have been running 4.2 miles rather easliy lately and it is time to increase my normal daily run to 5.2. It is time for me to feel stretched just like running 4.2 miles in under 42 minutes as a goal. It is time for me to "raise the bar" as the "K-Day" is approaching. I am thinking about adding a longer run somewher like a half marathon run. I read that there is one somewhere in KY and it might correspond with my vacation. I am keeping it in the back of my mind as an option.

Today's Run
- 9/17/03 Ran ~5.5 miles. I did not keep track of time other than it took me about an hour to run this distance.

Off Road Thoughts
- I am looking forward to a vacation next month. It should be rather enjoyable. I am thinking about extending it a couple of days at the beginning as I am toying with the idea.

Gotta Go,
Steven

Day 22-36 A lot to Add...

Wow, I have been neglected posting for a variety of reasons, but in a nutshell here is what my training has been like.

Daily Runs

I have been averaging 10 minute miles since buying new shoes...

9/3 - 4.2 Miles
9/4 - 4.2 Miles
9/5, 9/6, 9/7 - Days Off (two days the weather was bad)...
9/8 - 4.2 Miles
9/9 - 4.2 Miles
9/10 - 4.2 Miles
9/11 - 4.2 Miles
9/12 - Days off
9/13 - 5.2 Miles
9/14 - 4.2 Miles
9/15 - 2.1 Miles
9/16 - 2.1 Miles

Off Road Thoughts

- I need to make more posts to this website.
- Signed up for the Marathon and paid yesterday online for the run.
- Considering taking a couple more days additionally on vacation.
- I'm not eating enough fruit, but have found that eating a lot of fig newtons has been good for my diet in getting carbs into my diet. 2 fig newtons equals 7% of the USRDA for carbs.
- Taking a cold shower (coldest water I can stand has reduced my recovery times and my running has been a lot easier. my leggs do not feel as swelled.)
- The outside temp has also been beneficial. I have not been sweating as much lately.

Gotta Go, Next Post should be a lot sooner than the last:)

Day 20-21 - Running with a fix

What I learned Today
- Maybe I should be concentrating on getting up early and running before work while it is still cool outside. I talked with a guy at the Extra Mile shoe store in downtown Chas today and he gave the advice to consider running earlier in the morning to avoid the heat and that my runs would go better.
- Bought a new pair of shoes as my old pair ASICS 2070s had little or no cushioning support and had probably exceed more than 300 to 400 miles or so. The guy talked me into the 2080s, but I'm not sure of the selection since it has a lower arch and I have a higher arched foot. In the past, this has been a critical issue for me on the success of my selection of runnning shoes. Oh well, I may have made a bad purhasing decision, as my feet were a hurting a little bit after 3 miles. I did not break the shoes in by wearing the pair around work or home. It went from a lunch time purchase to an after work run. The ASICS pair cost me. Well, he did give me a little discount for being a repeat customers discount and it made it a fairly good deal compared to buying shoes off the web. I have bought probably 4 pairs or more shoes and other things from him. He is a wonderful salesman in that he remembered selling me a pair back in February and he knew exactly the brand and the model number. I just about bought the shoes based in his knowledge of running and suggestions as I told him I was training for Kiawah as he heard me talking with another guy getting ready to run the race as well for the first time. He was telling the sales lady that he was getting old and he wanted to do it before he got to old. Hmm sounds like something I was thinking about a few months ago.

Todays Run
-4.2 miles
- Ran well for ~3.0 miles and noticed quickly what it was like to run in fresh shoe soles.
- I did not sweat as much today.
- Feet were hurting after 3.0 miles.
- Saw another runer as I was starting and we talked briefly as the person was continuing on as I was finishing up with a hurt foot. It was not one of the better runs. I made the mistake of not running with a better pair of socks. It was a pair rough enough that my feet did not slide around to much in the shoe, but I felt some slipage and some "sandpaper" like action on the feet. Normally, with my old pair I have groves in the souls and my feet do not slip around so the soles of the shoes are not a factor.

Sunday's Run
- About 5.75 miles.
- Walked about 1 mile.
- Took about 1 hour and 10 minutes after slow walking stretch
- I did not have a lot left in the tank and did not have much to begin with.

Off Road Thoughts
- Yah, today I was so sleepy the last hour of work, I had two cups of coffee to wake me up. I did not sleep well last night. I think this might have affected me running. Kind of grumpy and short with housemate about him getting some stuff done around the house.

Until Thursday,
Steven S.
